Guide to financial assistance programs for spaying and neutering 

Why Spay or Neuter?

It is estimated that 8-10 million dogs and cats are surrendered to adoption centers each year. While New England has been very successful in reducing the overpopulation problem in our area, the problem is still very real. Euthanasia of animals still happens although less and less each year. There are many solutions that will help reduce the number of pets surrendered to adoption centers and spaying or neutering your pet is top on the list. The NHSPCA strongly encourages spaying or neutering of pets to help with overpopulation. Spaying or neutering will not only prevent unwanted pregnancies, it will also make your pet healthier and live longer. There are several assistance programs listed below.

New Hampshire SPCA - Stratham

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible to participate in this program you must be a cat owner. 

Fees: Cats only, $85 for female and $60 for male.

$15 rabies vaccine if needed. 

$25 micro-chipping (optional)

*We also offer additional low cost services: 

$10 nail trim

$5 ear cleaning

$10 flea/tick preventative  

Or all three for $20!

Please note these additional services are only offered to animals registered for the spay/neuter clinic.

NH Animal Population Control Program - Plan B (Concord, NH)

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible to participate in this program you must be on one of the seven programs: Food Stamps, Medicaid or Healthy Kids Gold, TANIF, The Old Age Assistance Program, Supplemental Security Income Program, Aid to the Needy Blind Program, APTD Program. A person may also be qualified if they meet the income guidelines for the program. Please call 271-3697 to obtain these guidelines or online at http://agriculture.nh.gov/divisions/animal-industry/animal-population-control.htm 

Fees: $25 per animal which includes spay or neuter and $15 towards a rabies vaccination.

Procedure: Obtain an application by calling the Animal Population Control Program at 603-271-3697. 


NH Spaying and Altering Service Program-Concord, NH

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible to participate in this program you

must be a NH resident who needs financial assistance. Fees: Dogs are $70 for females and $50 for males. Cats are $50 for females and $35 for males. Procedure: Obtain an application by calling (603) 224-1361 (before 2:00pm) or writing to: NHAS, 8 Hutchins Street, Concord, NH 03301. Mail in the application with appropriate fee and you will be sent a certificate and list of participating veterinarians. Then call and make an appointment with a participating veterinarian.


Greater Nashua Humane Society-Nashua, NH

603-889-2275 ext 21, www.hsfn.org.  Low cost vaccination clinics and low cost spay/neuter clinics.

Female and male cats $85 includes rabies, distemper, microchip and revolution. Male dogs -$150. They do not do female dogs.

Friends of Animals Program-National Program.

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible to participate in this program youmust be a cat or dog owner regardless of financial need. Fees: Dogs are $110 for females and $74 for males. Cats are $85 for females

and $61 for males. Procedure: Obtain an application by calling 1-800-321-7387 or www.friendsofanimals.org.

Write to: Friends of Animals, PO Box 30054, Hartford, CT 06150 Mail in the application with appropriate fee and you will be sent a certificate and list of participating veterinarians. Then call and make an

appointment with a participating veterinarian. Additional charges may apply depending on individual vet that you choose.


Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society - Catmobile

Locations are subject to change (mobile unit) Fees: Female cats $120, Male cats $80 (includes Spay/neuter, rabies

vaccine, flea treatment, deworming and exam. Microchip available for $20). Qualified feral cats are $35.

New Hampshire Humane Society-Laconia,NH

Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)

Eligibility Requirements: SNAP is designed to help those individuals who can not afford spay/neuter surgery and who do not qualify for other spay/neuter assistance programs.

Fees: $125 for female cats, $85 for male cats, $155 for male dogs. Rabies vaccines are $12, Distemper vaccine are $12. Other fees

can apply (hernia repair, in heat, deworming, etc) Procedure: Please visit www.nhhumane.org/snap.php to fill out an online application and to see current fee schedule and dates for surgery.


PAW Program: $20 if on state assistance for cats and dogs up to 50 lbs.


Rozzie May Animal Alliance-Conway, NH

Fees: Female cats $75 and Male cats $60. Dogs $80 and up depending on sex and weight

Procedure: Call 603-447-1373 or visit www.rozziemay.org. Vaccines also available and has mobile unit that travels to Rochester, Dover and Brentwood April – November.


Animal Welfare Society-Kennebunk, ME

Cats: $50, Male Dog (under 50lbs): $90, Female Dog (under 50lbs): $120. Rabies vaccines are available for $8.  In addition, there are  programs available for low income residents that range from $12-20 depending on age of animal and town of residency. Also offer nail trim, distemper, rabies and microchipping.



Animal Allies-Manchester, NH

Open to any cat owner that needs financial assistance getting their cat spayed/neutered. Females are $85 and males are $50.  For more info, call 1-800-990-7729. No checks accepted.  www.animalallies.org.


Animal Refuge League – Westbook, ME

Individuals interested must meet income guidelines to qualify for services.  # 854-9771 ext. 400 for more info.

www.arlgp.org.   Female and Male cats $50.  Dogs (both male and female) under 50lbs- $110

Dogs 50-75lbs- $160, Dogs over 75lbs - $210.  Also offer nail trim, distemper, rabies and microchipping.


Salem Animal Rescue League –Salem, NH

Female cats: $50 and Male cats: $25

Must meet national poverty guidenlines. Includes nail trim, distemper and rabies.
