Baby Goat Dumped in Exeter

Animal Cruelty Officer Jones of
the Exeter PD holds the abandoned goat.

On Wednesday night, August 9, 2006 sometime between 10:30 and 11:00 PM, a baby goat was discarded between Haven and Bonnie Drives in Exeter, NH. Witnesses observed a dark colored SUV leaving the area after they heard the goat crying and went outside to find it standing in the road.
Animal Cruelty Officer Jones of the Exeter Police Department was called out to pick up the animal and the goat was then delivered to the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Stratham. Anyone with information about the goat or the person abandoning the goat can call ACO Jones at (603) 772-1212 or the Exeter Crime Line at (603) 778-9000, as well as the NHSPCA's Cruelty Investigator
Steve Sprowl.
Abandoning an animal is considered animal cruelty under the State of New Hampshire's Criminal Code and carries a misdemeanor charge for the first offense. Citizens that have a need to dispose of their unwanted animals should call a humane society in their area and seek help in surrendering the animal rather than abandoning the animal on the side of the road.
The New Hampshire SPCA is a community resource center that provides animal adoption, education, investigation and sheltering services in a professional and compassionate way. The Adoption Center is open from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and closed on Wednesday. For more information about making a donation to the New Hampshire SPCA please call (603) 772-2921 ext. 106 or visit www.nhspca.org.
