Stratham, NH -

Horses Seized from Hooksett

Two horses were taken into protective custody on Thursday, June 30, 2005 and brought to the New Hampshire SPCA in Stratham for rehabilitation. The horses are severely underweight and were seized because they lacked proper feed and care.

On Monday, May 2, 2005 New Hampshire SPCA Cruelty Investigator Steven Sprowl was called to assist Hooksett Police with an investigation involving animal cruelty in the town of Hooksett. Two horses were checked by a veterinarian and consequently left with their owner for a period of thirty days, giving her the opportunity to rehabilitate the horses on her own.

The veterinarian assigned to the case determined yesterday that the owner had not successfully rehabilitated the horses and the NHSPCA was called to remove them from the property. Cruelty charges are being sought against the owner of the horses.
To report suspected cases of cruelty contact Cruelty Investigator Steven Sprowl at (603) 772-2921, ext. 111. Callers may remain anonymous.

The New Hampshire SPCA is a community resource center which provides animal adoption, education, investigation and sheltering services in a professional and compassionate way. The Adoption Center is open from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and closed on Wednesday.
