25 Animals Surrendered to the NHSPCA
as a Result of an Investigation

25 Animals Surrendered to the New Hampshire SPCA

On Monday, October 25, 2004, the New Hampshire SPCA was in receipt of 25 animals as a result of an investigation in a neighboring town. The animals were voluntarily surrendered to the NHSPCA and include 23 dogs, one Cockatoo bird and one horse.
Steve Sprowl, the NHSPCA's Cruelty Investigator, along with 5 additional staff, assisted police officers in the case. All of the animals arrived at the NHSPCA's Adoption Center in need of immediate medical care.

Medical concerns include multiple intestinal parasites such as coccidia, round worm and whip worm, in addition to cases of heartworm and demodectic mange. A 22 year old mare arrived nearly 200 pounds underweight and the Cockatoo, also underweight, is feather-bare on her abdomen, battling an infection.

Many of the dogs are less than 18 months old, and yet most of them need to have their dental issues addressed. Of the 23 dogs surrendered, all but one are purebred. Sadly, one of the puppies has been diagnosed with pneumonia and one of the dogs is confirmed to be pregnant.

Each of these new arrivals will undergo various medical treatments including being spayed and neutered to prepare them for adoption.

Due to the many medical conditions of these 25 animals, their stay at our Adoption Center promises to be lengthy and costly!

The NHSPCA is committed to the welfare of animals in our community and donations and supplies are again greatly needed to assist in providing care for these 25 new residents.
