The New Hampshire SPCA is proud to announce that it’s THAT time of year again! The 7th Annual Doggie Paddle Plunge, which has become one of our favorite signature events, will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017! The Plunge will take place at Great Island Common in New Castle, NH at Noon and once again is graciously presented, by Jackson Lewis.
New this year will be the addition of our first Celebrity Plunger! Katherine Underwood, reporter for NBC Boston and NECN, has graciously agreed to help make this event even more exciting and is going to Take The Plunge For Animals!!! We are thrilled and grateful for the support of Katherine and the NBC Boston and NECN family. Each year, the Doggie Paddle Plunge challenges the strong and the brave to jump into the icy cold waters of the Atlantic to demonstrate their utter commitment to ending animal homelessness. It’s a great way for everyone—individuals, clubs and businesses—to get involved in supporting the New Hampshire SPCA and our animals. All funds raised go toward the care of the nearly 2,500 animals that we care for each year.
The concept is simple: participants register online at www.nhspca.org and start raising funds from family and friends who wish to see them ‘take the Plunge’. It’s hard to say no to someone willing to dive into the winter ocean (average March temperature is 37 chilling degrees) for the benefit of needy animals! Then on March 11 participants will gather for warm drinks and well wishes at the Great Island Common in New Castle at 11:00 a.m. We’ll begin our march to the beach and precisely at Noon, Plungers will run full speed ahead into the frosty ocean! But ‘The Plunge’ is so much more than that. It is the kind of thrilling and fulfilling event that you have to experience to understand.
“Our goal this year is to double the number of people joining our March to the Beach and together raise $20,000 for the animals,” said Sheila Ryan, Director of Development and Marketing at the NHSPCA. “Every person, every pledge no matter the size, helps us achieve something truly special, saving the furry and feathered friends we care for. We are so excited for another year of Plunging and we’re thankful for everyone’s support!”
Plungers will receive awesome prizes for fundraising, including a very cool “I froze my tail off for the animals” long sleeve t-shirt for raising $150, and a warm sweatshirt for raising $500 or more. “The proud plungers from past years have worn their shirts like a badge of honor,” said Ms. Ryan. “I’m sure they’ll love the new design and wear this one for years! But more importantly they are helping the animals, for which we are truly grateful. Of course, they also get bragging rights!”
A prize will also be awarded for best overall costume, so don your dog or cat or chicken suit, you could win this one as well!
The registration fee includes pre-plunge coffee and snacks, a delicious, warm lunch afterward and a goodie-bag filled with fun items. Plungers are encouraged to pre-register by going to www.nhspca.org and clicking on the Plunge Logo. Friends and Family are encouraged to come root on their brave plunger and register to join them for the post-plunge luncheon. All registration information can be found at www.nhspca.org
