Adoption Program
The following horses are currently at the shelter and ready for their new homes.
All adoption fees are subject to change and will vary depending on the age, ability and soundness of the horse. They range from zero to $1,500 with an average of $500.

Barney

20+ yr. old, 15.1H, Chestnut, Qtr. Horse mix(?) Gelding.

Betty

20+ yr. old, 15H, Bay, Standardbred Mare.

These guys were rescued out of a neglectful situation back in January. They were emaciated, unkempt and covered in lice and skin infections after being kept together, tied to opposite walls, in a single small stall for an undetermined amount of time.
Horses are so very forgiving and these two are no different. They're well bonded and get along like an old married couple. A little bit of bickering with a lot of admiration. They're sweet and personable and fun to have around. They both enjoy being groomed and especially love cookies, fresh water and meal times. At this point, they're all cleaned up and doing great, although Barney's still struggling with a little skin condition, it's getting better by the day. They're personalities are back, they have a gleam in their eye and a spring in their step. We'd love to find them a place to retire but would be happy with a foster situation for the summer ~ fall. Being out on pasture would be ideal for them and they love being outside 24/7 with a run-in shed. We'd be willing to offer them for a foster situation or to an appropriate retirement home with adoption fees waived.

Foster Program

Horses are fostered out into community barns for a variety of reasons ranging from long term rehabilitation to lack of space here at the NHSPCA. We are always looking for people to assist in expanding our walls and resources. If you have some space in your barn and heart to help a homeless horse, please contact us. You could be the stepping stone to a new life. As horses become available for adoption, they will be listed here and can be seen by appointment at their various locations.

Seven

8 yrs. old, 15H, Chestnut/Flaxen, MO Foxtrotter/QH Cross Gelding. Seven has some "sticky stifles" and is currently in a conditioning program so we can determine whether or not he will need surgical intervention. So far, so good; he's doing great and rarely takes a sticky step!! Hopefully we'll be able to get him up to snuff in the coming weeks. We'll keep you posted…

Adoption fee is currently TBA

Golumpki

Approx. 19 yrs. old, 15H, Bay, Standardbred Mare. She's funny, sound and has really come around with gentle patience. She came in with seven other horses out of a failed rescue in New Ipswich. A conversation with her original owner has divulged her past including a lucrative racing career and successful motherhood. She was sent to the "rescue" several years ago due to finances.

Gigi's not great with other horses but tolerates geldings. She really enjoys being in a stall or in/out and will pace a bit out in the paddock. She enjoys the company of people and is happy to stand on cross ties for grooming, being fussed over and handed treats. She's got great ground manners, loads easily and is fine for the farrier (she's barefoot) and vet. She continues to shine in her training under saddle and is now being ridden outside and with other horses. She's so ready for the trails!! She'll need an intermediate rider to bring her along, but she's come a long way already!!

Her adoption fee is currently $200.

Foster to Adopt Program

In an effort to ensure a good match, we've developed our "Foster to Adopt" Program.
This program works much like an off-farm lease and affords an adopter thirty days (at their expense) as a trial run. Not all horses will be eligible and we will accept additional applications for horses in the "Foster to Adopt" Program. In the event that a horse is not adopted into their foster home, we will notify any interested parties on file. The following horses are on trial runs in foster homes and may be adopted at the end of their term.

Shay

Approx. 13 yrs. old, 15.1H Bay, Standardbred Cross(?) Mare. Rescued from truly horrific conditions at a farm in Middleton, she was in rehabilitated in foster care last summer and is looking for her permanent place this summer. Shay's come a long, long way. She's really nice, social and good with the herd. Not overly marish, an easy keeper and easy to have around. No vices to mention and good for the farrier and vet. She's currently barefoot with great feet, good bone and clean legs; a solid, athletic, girl. She's got nice ground manners, loads, ties and has been backed but is still very green under saddle. She'll need an experienced rider who will be able to train her and bring out her best. The reward will be a fabulous friend and partner who will be able to do whatever you want.

Her adoption fee is currently $500.

Jazz

11 yrs. old, 16H, Dark Chestnut, Araby Standardbred cross(?). Jazz came to us when EPONA Rescue in Epping had to close its doors. She's had her issues but is thriving in a small backyard barn atmosphere with consistency and patience. Jazz is currently being fostered for a possible adoption and is doing very well. She has settled into her new routine of being loved, fussed over and ridden. All is going great and we are still very hopeful for a successful adoption. We're taking our time as we want to ensure it's the right match. She's been bounced around enough. We are still accepting applications for Jazz and will keep you posted on her status.

Her adoption fee is currently $500.

If you don't find what you are looking for, make sure to check back often as you never know what will become available next. We also have a wish list for approved farm animal adopters, come on in and complete an application so that we know what you are interested in adopting.

We only have horses and ponies at the moment but please check back often

ADOPTED!

Sugars Go Lady Go

Registered Paint Mare # 673,833, 9 yrs. old, 15H, Chestnut & White Overo. She's got tons of AQH in her background. Flashy, clean legs and good feet. Sugars is doing well with her ground work, she's been working in the round pen, doing well with voice commands and she'll join right up. We've been on her a couple of times; she's rusty but very willing. We've been working her in western tack and a simple hackamore. She's gamey, athletic and a bit impatient, perfectly suited for gymkhana or barrel racing; but she does work down into more casual pleasure gates if asked. This is a really sweet and intelligent mare. She's a super easy keeper. She's fine for the farrier and vet, currently barefoot and all up to date.

Her adoption fee is now at $750.

Peter

4 yrs. old, 14.2H, White/Grey, Paint Gelding. Peter is super sweet. He's got an awesome head, cute build and a kind eye. He had a tough geld but is all healed up and doing great now. All fattened up and ready to start work. We'll keep you posted on his progress. Check back soon for more info.

Adoption fee is currently $575.

Chief

Approx. 16 yrs. old, 9.2H, Palomino, Shetland Pony, Gelding. He's just too cute. He's been residing at the Dover High School in the Animal Science Program and the kids (with their teacher's help) have done a wonderful job with his rehabilitation, gelding after care and handling. He was used as an in-hand pony ride pony in his previous life and is really sweet with kids. We expect that he'll be back at the shelter in the next week or two when school gets out for summer and will be looking for his forever home.

Adoption fee is currently $275.

Mac

19 yrs. old, 16.2H, Bay, Thoroughbred cross(?) Gelding. Mac came in skeletal with the New Ipswich gang back in June. He's since gained all his weight back and boy is he HANDSOME! Stocky and put together quite nicely.
Mac has truly blossomed in foster care. He's great with everyone in the pasture. He's good for the farrier and is currently barefoot. He wasn't a big fan of the vet last summer, but he was really out of sorts at the time. He cross ties and loads with no vices to mention. His under saddle work is going great and he is regularly ridden around the farm. He still gets a little nervous out alone but with gentle guidance is easily managed. His foster dad loves him but has decided not to keep him to ensure that he can continue his foster work for the NHSPCA. Lucky YOU! This boy's ready for another chapter in his life. He's best suited for an intermediate rider at this point.

His adoption fee is currently $350.
