Shadow UPDATE:
Shadow took a trip to Mount Major to get a much deserved day out
of the kennel! He was perfectly behaved, met other dogs and people,
and walked nicely on the leash. He has now been with us since
June 2nd, and is trying to deal with the stress of kennel life
the best he can. Shadow loves having a job to do whether it is
training sessions (he is a smart boy and loves to learn!), a long
walk, or playing fetch. He has shown that he is the perfect hiking
companion. And after some exercise, is ready to snuggle and show
what an affectionate boy he is. Shadow has quickly become a staff
and volunteer favorite here. In the right home, he is best with
kids teenage and up, in a home without cats, and may be okay with
some dogs, he will open up and show he is ready to make that bond.
Come meet Shadow and see if that can |

Johnas A 3-4 year old neutered male PUGGLE Pug/Beagle mix, Johnas was dropped off to us without any history. We have found him to be a well mannered, calm, and low maintenance boy, not to mention handsome. A little independent at first, he may take some extra time to warm up, but he sure is worth it! Johnas seems like an easy going dog just searching for some consistent human companion. He has done well with some of the dogs and cats he has met here. |

Ranger A 2 year old neutered male Rottweiler/ Shepherd mix. Ranger is handsome, playful, and very active. He already knows sit, down, shake, stay, and seems to be crate trained. However, he can be protective of his environment and may even have some dog to dog issues. Overall he would do best with an experienced owner. Not recommended for children below the age of 12, Ranger can be very picky with the dogs that he gets along with, and may chase cats. He is housetrained. |

Chef is deaf and may have some visual impairments but he gets around great! He is super smart and has picked up on training quickly. True to his breed, he likes to work hard and needs to be occupied. He prefers to be the only animal in his home and would prefer a lifestyle that would offer lots of activity, patience and dedication. Casey
Labrador / Pit Bull Mix, Neutered Male, 2 years old, here because his owners were getting a divorce. He is housetrained and statuesquely handsome. Casey is very smart and already knows: sit, down, stay, attention to name, drop it, and seems to be crate trained. However he does not like to be left alone and may have some separation anxiety. He also seems to lack social knowledge and can be a bit reactive when meeting other dogs. Overall he is going to need someone who can give him direction and leadership, an active lifestyle, possibly someone who works from home. Not recommended for children below the age of 12, he has done ok with some dogs he has met here, but no cats. |

Duster
Labrador Mix, Neutered Male, 6 months old. Duster came to us as a fearful sweet puppy but after he was placed (with another dog) he quickly showed that he could be confident, bossy and opinionated. This is most likely due to lack of experience with other dogs and lack of direction. We still thing he is sweet, adorable and very willing to learn but he needs the right owners to get him started. He can still be a bit of a chicken with new things but again he is quick to learn. Anyone considering Duster should be dog savvy, willing to go to puppy classes (you get 4 free here) and not be a push over. Duster is smart, willing and will make up his own mind if he doesnt get enough information from you. Behind the chicken is confidence waiting to come out. But he has snapped at another dog and a child so he clearly need guidance. YOU (and we) can help him make better choices through training! So, no kids under 8, dog savvy cats only and some dogs or even better Duster needs to be the only dog! |

Zeke Pitbull x, Neutered Male, 6+ years old, good with kids 13 and older and some dogs, but will chase cats. Zeke is a friendly guy who is very active and will do well with a basic obedience class to help him bond with a new owner. Zeke is here because his owners were moving. |

Ebonie
Labrador Retriever mix, Spayed Female, 2 years old. This sweet girl is shy yet charming. She can be cautious and overwhelmed especially in new situations but is slowly learning to trust us. A natural leader is what Ebonie needs to guide her into a lifestyle where she worries less and knows who is in charge. She is very smart and has quite a few tricks up her sleeve like SIT PRETTY and ROLL OVER. Ebonie is very active and will probably chase cats - and picks and chooses the dogs she likes but will walk away rather than fight. Kids should be over 8 and cats should be dog savvy or no cats at all. Any dog you have she will need to meet and it would be best if they were smaller and equally active but not punky. With guidance and a clear set of rules this dogs will shine. |

Cara Labrador Retriever / Collie mix, Spayed Female, 1 1/2 years old. Active, playful and sweet, Cara can be a bit independent. Because of this she is going to need plenty of exercise, a firm owner willing to do some basic training and apply consistent rules. Cara should not be placed with kids, seems to be afraid of cats, and should do well with dogs her own size. |

What
Do You Really Know About Greyhounds? Retired greyhounds make wonderful
companions! Most are non-barking, easy to housebreak and are already
crate trained. Greyhounds are generally excellent on leash, walking
quietly and easily next to their person. They tend to have wonderful
manners and bond quickly with people and most other dogs. Greyhounds
are also very tolerant and can often learn to be okay with cats
and children. With consistency and clarity, training can be easy
and you may find you have a new shadow! They are intelligent,
lovable and loyal. While they may have had a past of racing at
the track, they require little exercise and tend to be couch potatoes
in the home merely wanting companionship. |
