Kona

Click Here For a Video of Kona on NHSPCA's Facebook Page!

Labrador Retriever / Sharpei Mix, Neutered Male, 4 years old, would be best as the only pet in his new home and would prefer an adult only home. Kona is an independent guy with lots of smarts. He already knows several commands and shows a willingness to learn more!

Whitey

Whitey is a 4 year old Jack Russell Terrier Mix who has been with us since July. This cutie pie needs a home with adults only. He has been good with other calm dogs and might chase cats. Whitey is neutered, mircochipped and up to date on all of his shots. He came to us because his previous owners were evicted from their home. Although Whitey is timid and fearful at first he has improved greatly with folks he's become familiar with here! He walks nicely on the leash, loves squeaky toys and has become quite the agility buff! He loves to show off his agility skills and would be an excellent companion for anyone interested in this dog and handler sport! So make all of Whitey's holiday wishes come true and give him a loving forever home!

Shelter Stars is a new obedience class designed specifically for the in house shelter dogs available for adoption! It helps to teach them commands and manners to make them even more adoptable and hopefully get them adopted quicker. It also gives them a much needed break from the kennel environment. The handlers are members of our volunteer “MOD Squad” team, who dedicate an hour every Sunday to helping these dogs. The course is five weeks long and even though we hope the dogs will be adopted before they finish, those that are here for the duration will get a certificate of graduation to go home with. The commands they learn include: sit, down, attention to name, drop it, touch, no more pulling, heel, come, watch me, stay, leave it, no jumping, wait, and settle.

This Logo featuring on some dogs' profiles indicates the dog has successfully graduated from our Shelter Stars training class! Of course if you want to adopt a dog or puppy and enroll them in our obedience classes, we do offer classes for all puppies and dogs. Click here for more information and to register today!

What Do You Really Know About "Pitbulls"?

Pitbulls make extraordinary companions! The term "Pitbull" is NOT a breed; it is a catch all phrase to describe 3 distinct breeds of dogs: the American Pitbull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Any way you slice it,Pitbulls are some of the most affectionate, loyal, and people loving pups on the block. With consistency, clarity, training, and leadership, you will never find a more constant companion than a Pitbull. Contrary to what the media would like you to believe, these dogs are far from "vicious" and they do not have specialized "locking jaws"- they are NOT alligators! Pitbulls are generally goofy dogs who are full of spunk, energy, and fun, fun, FUN! In fact, in a recent study by the American Temperament Test Society of 122 different breeds of dogs, Pitbulls achieved an average passing rate of 83.9%. That's better than Beagles (78.2%) and Golden Retrievers (83.2%). There are so many myths out there about Pitbulls that simply just aren't true. They are loving, loyal, and cuddly as teddy bears…come fall in love with a "bully" today!
